Made this low carb sausage, egg, whatever-the-fuck bake.

My paleo-ish soup.

Didn’t have time for a workout, but I made an awesome pot of some paleo-type soup. Very tasty.

Now..now kiss.

I’ve had crush on Fairuza Balk since I was a kid.

Boxer of Quirinal - A Hellenistic Greek sculpture dated to around 330 b.c.
It’s a sculpture of a defeated boxer, complete with caestus, or leather handwraps, still wrapped around his fists. Look at the cauliflower ear, the cuts, and the swollen face. It’s straight out of the latest pay-per-view but this was created more than 2,300 years ago.
This is divine.

Half hour on the heavy bag in 3 minute rounds with 30 second rest periods and 20 minutes of hammer work. Second day of paleo, didn’t realize how bloated my stomach was.

And this is what happens when a masterfully crafted katana collides with a masterfully crafted longsword.
Suck it, katana

HAH!

suck my fuckin’ diiiick

Aren’t katanas and longswords made for different overall purposes thoKatanas are slasher weapons made for cutting masterfully through human flesh so obviously it’s not gonna get through a fucking longsword which is really fucking thick and heavy and made for beating the shit out of people as well as hacking at armourA katana would slice the shit out of you guys so idk what the fuck you’re so smug about

second time I’m gonna make this statement but you’re absolutely right Cait.
Katanas are used to slice the opponent in half, to remove limbs or to sometimes thrust. They are not designed to chop. This is why they are curved slightly as opposed to a straight long sword.
So why the longsword fucks are getting uppity about this post I have no idea. In reality, using a Katana is much quicker and easier than a longsword and you’re likely to loose your bowels before you get the chance.

Yes! :3 I’m also pretty sure that the nature of the longsword- to hack, crush and club- means that it doesn’t have to be as specifically made as the katana, which as you say is a very quick blade used to slice as efficiently through flesh and bone as possible. It is also incredibly strong due to it’s construction- it takes a lot of fuckin layers to make a katana if I’m not mistaken. This gif makes it look like it could be a weak blade but it’s not MADE to be slammed edge down into a thick blade which has been made for slightly cruder combat. It’s made to decapitate you in as little time as possible. That’s the difference between old European and Japanese combat.

Katanas are made from folded steel, and it makes them very tough. The fact it’s being with a larger sword, straight down makes it easy to bend under that much force.
Japanese combat was very much based around respect. Something you only really find in ‘knighthood’ with Europeans. Finest weapons to cut down (regardless of who he is) your opponent. Katanas were only sold if they were the highest quality. The only time this didn’t apply was in WWII where officers were allowed to buy slightly lower grade swords at a significantly lower price.

There you are folks. Learn some shit.

Im rebloggin this cause of the knows.

My comment was not directed so much at the katana itself (whether I’m referring to that katana, all katanas, or the tradition of swordmaking around the katana) but to all the smarmy know-it-alls (ie. anime fans and other nerds) who talk about how much better katanas are than medieval swords longswords viking swords EVERY OTHER FUCKING SWORD IN THE WORLD.
(note: I have a similar beef with snootier fans of “modern” fencing, who, like katanaphiles, yatter on about the “elegance” of their preferred weapon compared the to crudeness of the longsword, but even moreso because their entire discipline descends from longsword combat manuals.)
Look above for ridiculous, ignorant comments about how longswords were meant to “hack, crush and club” your opponents for an example. Spend one-fifth the time you do reading up on the awesomeness of katanas to learn about high medieval swordplay and you’ll see how wrong you are. Katanas have a reputation for being a light, fast sword, but in fact both styles of swords tend to be around the same weight (~3 lbs, give or take) and rest assured, speed and dexterity are essential when using a longsword.
A bit more history: Any weapon with the popularity and ubiquity of either the katana or the longsword gets to that position by being the best thing for its environment. Katanas, and Japanese warfare in general, developed largely because of the lack of iron in Japan. The curvature of the blade makes for a very small striking surface, exploiting the scarce materials therein as much as possible and putting the full weight of the blade behind every strike. In Europe, iron was not so scarce, so along with steel weapons, people were dressing up in steel as well to protect themselves. Longswords were developed to break through armour that the Japanese didn’t have the resources to develop. The straight blade puts the full weight of the weapon behind the point, piercing armour and snapping chainmail links with ease- and proceeding THROUGH that into the soft flesh beneath.
Obviously katanas are pretty fantastic weapons for the context in which they existed, but they would not have held up against contemporary European armour. Rest assured, European longswords were sharp and deadly. If their only purpose was to smash at your enemy until his bones were mashed or he bled out internally, they would have stuck to maces and hammers.
In short: stop talking about longswords and other medieval european swords like they’re flat clubs with fancy handles, because they’re so much more than that.
